
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Monday commissioned the newly completed 2-kilometre Buzaye Area Road Network in Sokoto metropolis, describing the over N3 billion project as an investment in the future prosperity of the state.
The road project, executed by ZBCC, forms part of the Sokoto State Government’s urban renewal programme aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing socio-economic development.
Speaking before commissioning the project, Governor Kefas said his visit to Sokoto was more than an official engagement, describing it as a homecoming because of the longstanding historical ties between Taraba and Sokoto states.
Recalling his time in the state as a military officer, he said: “I remember with joy my stay in Sokoto as a Major. But today, I stand here not as a guest but as a brother from a state that share historical connection with the people of Sokoto. As we speak, the tomb of two Sultan’s of Sokoto are in Taraba.”
Kefas noted that improved public infrastructure is essential to building modern cities, stressing that the importance of quality road networks cannot be overemphasised.
Commending the Sokoto State Government for the project, he said: “Leadership is ultimately measured by tangible impact on the lives of the populace,” adding, “Development knows no political party, as leaders shares one constitutional responsibility to deliver good governance to his people.”
He further urged citizens to protect public infrastructure while encouraging Governor Ahmed Aliyu to remain committed to delivering democratic dividends.
“Public infrastructure deliver the greatest value when citizens take ownership. Therefore, I encourage the governor to remain steadfast and never deterred in delivering good governance to the people of the state.”
Earlier, Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, said the Buzaye Area Road Network Project comprises Argungu Road, Gobir Road, Lanzu Road and other connecting roads, with a combined length of approximately two kilometres.
According to him, “Road infrastructure remains one of the most critical foundations for sustainable socio-economic development. Well-constructed roads facilitate the efficient movement of people and goods, improve access to residential communities, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, markets, and business centres, while also strengthening security, promoting environmental improvement, and stimulating economic growth.”
He added that the project is part of his administration’s broader urban renewal agenda.
“This project forms an integral part of our broader Urban Renewal Programme, through which our administration continues to transform the physical landscape of the Sokoto metropolis.
“Under this initiative, numerous strategic infrastructure projects have been executed to modernize our cities, improve public amenities, and create an environment that is functional, resilient, attractive, and capable of supporting sustainable economic development.”
