The Nigerian military has reaffirmed its commitment to tackle many security challenges in various parts of the country.
Maj.-Gen. Danjumma Ali-Keffi, General Officer Commanding, Nigeria‘s 1st Kaduna Army Division, made the remarks when 80 regular recruits fainted at the Nigerian Army depot in Zaria on Saturday.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the military has faced various security challenges caused by the activities of Boko Haram terrorists, gunmen, kidnappers, IPOB and other criminal elements. .
Ali-Keffi, who was the event’s reviewer and special guest of honor, said the military “will not rest on our oars until this country is safe for all of us.”
He noted that since its inception in 1924, the Nigerian Depot Army has had a mandate to transform able-bodied civilians into soldiers to meet the manning needs of the Nigerian army.
“This function is of the utmost importance, given the many challenges presented by the misery of our beloved country.
“It is noteworthy that when you passed out today, the strength of the Nigerian army was reinforced by 6,400 able-bodied men and women.
He added that the depot has been able to develop innovative ways to improve the level of training in the Nigerian military.
Ali-Keffi noted that the Nigerian army had given a positive result, which is evident by the strong fighting spirit of the soldiers in various theaters of operations.
“With the excellent exercise demonstration on this parade ground today, I am sure that you have acquired the basic training that is required of you to be good soldiers. ”
He reminded the soldiers of the pledge of allegiance administered to them and advised them to avoid acts that could tarnish the image of the Nigerian military and the nation in general.
