PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –
The Cross River State Director of Social Welfare and Humanity, Mrs. Elizabeth Oqua has decried the alarming rate of Gender Based Violence in the State (GBV).
Mrs Oqua said within the last two years, her Ministry alone has recorded over 1,425 cases of violence against women and children in Calabar South Local Government and Calabar Municipal Council.
She started this during a four day Media Dialogue on Ethical Reporting and Advocacy to Eliminate Violence against Women and Girls organized by EU- UN Spotlight Initiative
Also speaking, Agnes’s Mathew Idaka of the State Ministry of Women Affairs, said over 103 cases of rape against under age children were recoded in 2020, while her counterpart from the Federation of Women Lawyer Cross River Chapter, Ann Aloye said she has secured four conviction in the multiple cases of GBV, while others are still pending.
