Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have successfully rescued the four remaining students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, who were abducted by bandits earlier this month.
The latest operation comes just days after the DSS rescued a professor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in another intelligence-led mission.
The students were freed late Wednesday during a carefully coordinated operation carried out by DSS operatives without the payment of any ransom.
A suspected kidnapper was arrested during the rescue operation, while other members of the gang were neutralised, according to security sources.
The students were among six undergraduates kidnapped on June 3 when armed bandits invaded their off-campus hostel in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda and whisked them away.
Two of the victims had regained their freedom earlier, leaving four still in captivity.
Following the earlier release, security agencies intensified intelligence gathering and launched a sustained operation that culminated in the safe rescue of the remaining students.
The successful operation has been welcomed by residents and the academic community, bringing relief to the students’ families and reinforcing confidence in ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes.
