The Wife of Borno State Governor, Dr. Falmata Umara Zulum has commended the state NLC for its peaceful approach to labour matters despite the security challenges affecting the government of the state.
Dr. (Mrs.) Zulum also appreciated the NLC for recognising and carrying women along in the conduct of its activities as a union while thanking the Labour union and its allied trade union for their support to the IDPs, less privileged and even the most vulnerable in the society.
Represented by the State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, who was the Guest of Honour at the 2021 Quadrennial Delegate Conference of the NLC Women Committee, gave the commendation following the recent election of the new NLC executives in the state.
The NLC National President representative, Comrade Danladi Mshelia returned the candidates duly elected having received unanimously general and collective endorsements of all the 74 accredited delegates that were available and screened for the election.
Comrade Danladi who is also the National President of Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria (SSUCOEN) appealed to the newly elected leaders to work and perform credibly within the armpit of the labour union constitution, while engaging the women in the decision making process.
He further commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s efforts on security and labour matters while urging him to do more and sustain the tempo.
Earlier, The NLC State Chairman, Borno State Council, Comrade Bulama Abiso who presided over the election process, urged the delegates to conduct themselves maturely and hold the election peacefully while Commending the outgoing NLC executives for their support and role in the leadership achievements and called on the new executives to emulate them and even perform better. .
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) State Chairman, Comrade Babayo Ahmad who is also the Coordinator of the NLC Women Committee Election, assured continuous partnership with the committee and congratulated the women delegates for successfully electing their new exco members.
In his remark, the Director of Labour Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Borno State, Alh. Ibrahim Abubakar, urged the delegates to be upright, matured, transparent and humble in the conduct of the election.
He also assured that the ministry would continue to relate and hold social dialogue as well as peaceful negotiations on industrial disputes in the state through the channels of legal procedures.
In her acceptance speech, the NLC women committee chairperson elect, Comrade Saratu Bausa, thanked all those who supported and encouraged them directly and indirectly while promising to bring significant development and progress in the union.
