Anambra State Police Command has launched an intensive investigation into the death of a 23-year-old nursing student whose body was discovered under suspicious circumstances in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
As part of the ongoing probe, police have taken the landlord of the property where the incident occurred into custody for questioning.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed detectives to fast-track investigations into the case.
According to the statement, the matter has been transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka to ensure a more detailed and discreet inquiry.
The victim was reportedly found dead on June 14, 2026, within the premises where she resided as a tenant. Detectives who visited the scene observed a deep cut on her thigh, other visible injuries on her body, and blood stains around the area, circumstances that have heightened suspicions of foul play.
Police investigations later identified the deceased as a student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor.
Ikenga said the landlord has been detained and is being interrogated as investigators work to establish the events that led to the young woman’s death.
The body has since been deposited in a mortuary, where it will be preserved pending an autopsy expected to aid the investigation.
Meanwhile, CP Orutugu has instructed investigators to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the incident and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The police assured the public that updates would be provided as investigations progress.
