Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 12 suspected criminals, including alleged members of the Lakurawa, Mamudawa, and Boko Haram terrorist groups, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity in the state.
The suspects are facing various allegations ranging from terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery to illegal possession of firearms. Police also confirmed the arrest of a man accused of raping a 10-year-old girl.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, said the suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
According to the police commissioner, three of the suspects identified as Muhammadu Bandi, Aliyu Abubakar, and Muhammadu Abubakar are believed to be linked to the Mamudawa and Boko Haram groups.
Preliminary findings by investigators suggest that the trio was involved in movements around Illo on June 4, when suspected terrorists attacked and killed three officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Hadejia also disclosed the arrest of Murtala Sani, a resident of Zazzagawa village. He is accused of supplying food items and drinks to members of the Lakurawa terrorist group, allegedly providing them with logistical support.
In a separate operation, police operatives arrested Faruku Muhammed for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl.
The commissioner said the command has intensified security operations across the state, including aggressive patrols and tactical deployments in identified flashpoints, to protect residents and maintain law and order.
He assured the public that the police would continue working with other security agencies to combat crime and ensure the safety of lives and property throughout Kebbi State.
