Aligning Yourself with Nature, By LINDA ASIMOLE ELLAH

are you a learner?

What is your perception of Nature? What is your experience of Nature?

Nature is simple, also complex. Nature is beautiful. Nature is calm. Nature is tranquil. Nature can also be turbulent, but not without our influence and disturbance.

It is what Humans do with nature that cause some disruption to nature. And even after such disruption, nature always seeks to return to balance.

Nature is real. Nature is extraordinary. Nature is mystical. The more we are in tune with it the better for our lives, and better for our health, because Nature is a healer.

You can be in tune with nature and she will be at your service. For instance, in the compound where I live, there is a very tall coconut tree. It is in fact the longest tree in that entire area. When I first arrived in that compound as a pregnant young bride, I used to have a phobia that the coconut tree might fall on my head. That was all in my head. I had to help myself overcome that fear.

Years have passed by and my fake fear did not come true and it will not come true. Rather, I have learnt that I can be in tune with my immediate environment. So, I have agreed with that coconut tree that even as her fruits drop sporadically, no one in the compound will ever be knocked by her fruit. I believe that the coconut tree and I are on the same page on that matter. No, I have not gone insane. We have talked and agreed. Funny.

Nature is spiritual. Nature is designed by a divine being. Nature is our ideal place of rest. Nature is the perfect place of rest for the flesh. Oh, it is most at home there. So even now, the best foods you can feed your flesh with is that directly gotten from nature, best is when it is fresh, clean and uncooked, but edible for your body. Even when cooked, prepared as simply as possible with other natural ingredients. Processed foods and foods grown with fertilizers and chemicals are best minimized. The body belongs to nature. It struggles with non-natural elements.

In the words of Wayne Dyer: “As you awaken to your Divine Nature, you will begin to appreciate beauty in everything you see, touch and experience.”

In our daily life, we can develop habits and lifestyles that keep us in tune with nature.

Practical Ways to Connect with Nature:
Walk barefooted around the house.
Express appreciation for simple everyday things: water, clothing, meals, family, friends.

Respect the human nature in others and bear with them in understanding and forgiveness. There will be times when this is very hard to do, but you too would love to be forgiven.

Adopt a simple, humble and positive attitude to life, because from dust you came and unto dust shall ye return.
Drink lots of water and think of the water as a source of health and healing even as you drink it. Reduce soda, soft drinks and beers.

Sometimes, let go of electronics and gadgets and just be – just be with yourself and just be with others.
Take a pen and paper to write down some inspiration and let it flow.
Find and see pleasure where you are, in what you have and in who you are – not only some place far away or abroad.
Practice contentment.
Till the soil and plant something.
Remove weed and make the surrounding of a plant look tidy.
Water plant and admire it as it grows.
Plant a tree, plant a flower. Let others come after you to enjoy the fruit of your sowing.
Cultivate the feeling of awe at the sight of nature around you.
Take a position and just gaze at the trees, plants, birds.
Lift up your eyes and just gaze at the clouds with no specific thoughts. The peace and calmness you desire lies in looking at the skies.
Stop and take a closer look at a flower.
Feel the wind blow across your face.
Include fruits, nuts and vegetables in your meals.
Look into the eyes of a child and give a smile.
