Ayade’s commissioner grades another 10km roads in Bakassi

PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –

The Cross River State Commissioner for Rural Development, Hon. Edem Effiom has begun the grading of another 10 kilometers of rural roads in communities in Bakassi Local Government Area of the state.

The exercise follows previous grading of a 6.3kilometres of roads in the hinterlands of Akpabuyo Local Government Area.

Effiom, who hails from Akpabuyo LGA is undertaking the bulldozing and grading of Ikot Iwang and Esuk Okon villages in Bakassi which had no form of motorable access for very many years.

Speaking about the development, Clan Head of Esuk Okon Village, Chief Asuquo Okon-Ekpo described the gesture as one of the best initiatives to happen to the community, saying the journey from Esuk Okon Village to Ikot Nakanda council area used to be 200 naira by bike, but the sorry state of the roads had risen the fare to over a thousand naira in the rainy seasons.

In her vote of thanks, Woman Leader of Esuk Okon Village, Mrs Josephine Bassey thanked the Governor Ben Ayade for appointing Hon. Effiom Okon Commissioner, whom she said remembered to bring home a personal sacrifice of opening up the village for farmers to be able to access other parts of the state.

Effiom Okon said it was necessary to extend the same project which he started in Akpabuyo a few weeks ago to Bakassi because the terrain is a tough one.

“This part of Bakassi is very difficult to access. As you can see even the bulldozers are struggling to have a way. The terrain is a tough one, but l cannot overemphasize the need for the people to have a way to go about their businesses”

“We owe it a duty to help our people and this is why l am replicating the same in Bakassi to show gratitude to our leader the Governor and the people”.
