Niger State Governor Umaru Bago visits flood victims in Mokwa, Niger State
Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago has announced a comprehensive intervention package to restore hope and rebuild lives in response to the devastating flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area.
The governor disclosed that the state government has donated ₦1 billion and fifty trucks of assorted grains to support victims of the flood.
“The government is fully committed to restoring comfort and normalcy to your lives,” Governor Bago said on Monday during his visit to the temporary camp at Tiffin Madza Primary School, where hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) are currently being hosted.

The governor also announced the award of the Mokwa-Raba Road project, including the construction of four new bridges, at the cost of ₦7 billion. This project aims to ease movement, improve local commerce, and prevent isolation during future flooding.
Governor Bago directed the Ministry of Lands to issue a Certificate of Occupancy to the Federal Government to facilitate the permanent resettlement of affected persons. Each displaced family will receive financial assistance for rent as they await the completion of permanent housing.
Acting Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Hussaini Ibrahim, gave a harrowing account of the flood’s impact, including 206 lives lost, 82 injuries, and 3,534 people displaced.
“The scale of destruction is heartbreaking,” Hussaini said.
“Entire families have been uprooted, livelihoods destroyed, and communities broken.” He said.
