Bandits attack Sokoto communities, kill 15 persons

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed about 15 people during attacks on some communities in Goronyo and Illela Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.

The state Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, confirmed the attack on Monday, shortly before he presented the state’s 2022 draft budget to members of the Sokoto State House of Assembly.

Governor Tambuwal said that the locals were killed during the attacks which occurred between Sunday night and Monday morning.

According to him, 12 people were killed in Illela and three others lost their lives in Goronyo.

He however commiserated with the families of those who lost their loved ones to the attacks, as well as people of the affected communities.

He also appealed to all and sundry not to be distracted by the ugly antics of enemies of humanity operating under whatever name tag.

Tambuwal Present Over 188bn 2022 Budget

The governor while addressing the state lawmakers said in consonance with the existing budgetary standing and prevailing fiscal projection, the year 2022 Budget stands at N 188,429,495,847.63. 


This according to Tambuwal is lower than the current 2021 budget of N205,016,512,295.41 by N16,587,016,447.78 representing 8.1%.

Tagging the 2022 budget as that of “Acomplishment and Sustenable Development”, Tambuwal showed sectoral allocation of the budget as education having the highest vote of N37,006,032,670.92 which is 20%.


This is followed by Health with  N28,806,855,774.51 representing 15%, then Agriculture with N22,551,438,538.42, representing 12% and Infrastructure with the sum of N18,176,537,119.57 which is the 10% of the total budget. 


“The remaining sum of N81,888,631,774.20 is allocated to other expenditures and it represent 43% of the total budget.


“The capital expenditure is 59.7% while recurrent spending is 40.3% of the total budget. The Budget will focus on completion of all ongoing infrastructural projects and the legacy projects started by this Administration”.
