A former Senator in Bauchi State, Isa Hamma Misau, has decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and rejoined the All Progressives Congress.

Misau who is a supporter of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, announced his defection back to the APC during a meeting with the APC Caretaker Chairman, MaiMala Buni, at the Yobe Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Friday.

His defection is the latest in the series of defections being witnessed from the PDP into the APC since Dogara fell out with the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

NATIONAL ACCORD had reported that Dogara who represents Dass/Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, dumped the  about two months ago.

In a letter of resignation from the PDP which he addressed to the Chairman of the PDP Bogoro ‘C’ Ward, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi state dated 24th July, 2020, Dogara, said he was resigning his membership of the ruling party in the state because governor Bala Mohammed was making the same mistakes the former governor made which led to his defeat in the 2019 election in the state.

He raised six issues of unfulfillment of campaign promises, mismanagement of resources, lack of respect to elders and traditional rulers in the state, in his letter as his reasons for dumping the ruling party in the state.

Misau who represented Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly, in an interview with journalists Friday night said since Dogara left, he’s been making consultations to leave the ruling party in the state.

He said: “We’ve been having a series of meetings and by the grace of God, I have moved to the APC to join my brother, Yakubu Dogara.

“You know, for the past two months, we have been talking about leaving PDP because, as you know, all politics is local and this is what my people want.”

Misau, who headed the Panel for the recovery of properties and funds, believed to have been “stolen” by officials of the previous administration of Mohammed Abubakar, governor Bala Mohammed, was on a wrong path and hence his defection.

“We can’t fold our hands and watch as governance in the state is going from bad to worse. If we stay in PDP in Bauchi state, people will think that we’re part of the government. We have to move so that we will salvage what’s left.

“Actually, we have been consulting for over two months regarding this issue. In 2023, we are going to put somebody that will listen to us.

“Regarding 2023, I want to do the will of my people first, when the time comes, they will decide what they want me to do,” he said.

But in a reaction, the PDP in Bauchi State said Senator Misau defection means less to the party.

In a telephone interview, the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Hamza Koshe Akuyam, described the defection as, “good radiance to bad rubbish.

He said: “He (Misau) came alone into the PDP in 2019 when he was denied ticket to contest, he could not win even in his polling unit, if he is going, bye-bye to him”.

The PDP Chairman who described the situation as very unfortunate, said that, “you know he has a lot of issues hanging on his neck to settle with the federal government as one of the contractors, so, he has to look for a safe haven in order to have rest.

“As he and others like him are going, many others are coming in to replace them. We are not afraid of anything come 2023, it is a river and when we get to the bank, we will create a bridge with which to cross the river”.
