Bauchi Police arrests 20 hoodlums for allegedly attacking vigilante committee

Twenty suspects have been arrested in connection with an attack on a vigilante committee in which six members sustained varying degrees of injuries.


The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakil disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in the state on Saturday.


He said that the hoodlums also burnt down the Hilux vehicle of the vigilante committee during the attack.

“On the 14th November, 2020 at about 1.13pm, information was received from reliable sources that, some hoodlums about twenty in number went and attacked office of committee security members (‘Yan Committee) located at Kofar Dumi Bauchi and burn their Hilux Van.

“Six of the security committee members sustained various degrees of injuries and they were rushed to Bauchi State Specialist Hospital for treatment. 

“On receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police charged the tactical team of the Command to arrest the perpetrators,” he stated.


Wakil said that the team was led by the Commander of the RSS swung into action and carried out series of raids at criminal hideouts, flashpoints and black sports.


He gave the names of those arrested in connection to the crime as Mubarak Hashim, of Karofi, Umar Ibrahim (AKA) Dan Kwaram, Khalid Ibrahim, of unguwan Bauchi, Yahaya Ibrahim of Unguwan Bauchi, Mohammed Sani (AKA) Mai Laya of Kofar Dumi, Abdulmajeed Muktar (AKA) Dila of Saman karofi and Abubakar Dahiru of Augunwan Gado Bauchi.

Others, according to him are Mustapha Muhammed (AKA) Maidala of Sabuwar Kasuwa, Suleiman Suleiman (AKA) Babaji of Kasuwar Fada,

Muktar Abdullahi (AKA) Junior, Naziru Jibrin (AKA) Grap, Musa Bala (AKA) Army, Abubakar Bala (AKA) Gashi, Isiyaku Adamu (AKA) Na Malama Nazir Isma’ila (AKA) Ola, Abubakar Sanusi (AKA) Abba, Adamu Ahmad (AKA) Ado Rabi’u Umar (AKA) Rabson  and Bashir Yahaya (AKA) Basho.


He said that all the suspects who are males will be profiled and charged to court immediately.


Wakil, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that similarly, on 18th November, 2020 at about 1.36am information was received from Gudum Hausawa villagers that a gang of armed robbers stormed into Gudum Hausawa and I.D.C Zango area of Bauchi on mob act. 


He said that on receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer ‘D’ Division led a team of patrol who swung into action and arrested nine suspects.

He gave the names of the suspects as Ahmed Umar, (22), Mohammed Danladi, (20), Abdulsalam Ali, (22), Abdulmumni Zakari Ya’u (18), Umar Aliyu (21), Ibrahim Ahmed (21), Ahmed Adamu (18), Usman Yunusa (18) and Basiru Sabo (18) all males of Bauchi State. 

The Police said that exhibits recovered from the nine set of wrappers, five yards of shedda material, three laptops, three (3) Set of Mobile Phones, theSum of N90,000 cash and charms.


He said that other suspects escaped to an unknown destination while efforts are on top gear to apprehend the fleeing suspects.


Wakil said: “The Commissioner of Police CP Lawan Tanko Jimeta psc, vowed to stem the state of hoodlums who foment trouble and threaten peace and security of public.


“The Command make emphasis that safety and security is not the sole responsibility of security agencies alone and urged members of the public to play a vital role towards ensuring peace by availing the Police with useful information that will be instrumental to unbundling criminal acts and tendencies.”
