A sudden collapse of Nigeria’s national grid on Wednesday triggered widespread power outages across multiple regions.
The incident, occurring between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., caused a sharp decline in megawatt output, plunging communities into darkness.
Several electricity distribution companies confirmed the disruption in their service areas.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) reported, “The current power outage is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 a.m. today, impacting electricity across our franchise areas,” in a statement shared on its X account.
Similarly, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) noted on X, “This development has resulted in no power supply across our four franchise states: Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.”
Both companies urged customers to remain patient, emphasizing that efforts are underway to stabilize the grid and restore electricity. Restoration work is ongoing to address the issue promptly.
