Nigerian Automobile and Technicians Association (NATA), Borno State Chapter, has distanced itself from the alleged collection of N20, 000 from members of the association for the allocation of site at the newly proposed site provided to the association by the Borno State Government which is under renovation
The association also faulted the presentation of membership ID cards and uniforms by members to secure allocation of site at the new garage as speculated by some executive members of three units of the association which are presently under investigation by a Standing Disciplinary Committee.
The State Chairman of NATA, Borno State , Engineer Hussaini Musa who stated this on Saturday during a press briefing in Maiduguri, warned that the association would not tolerate such misconduct and denied all the rumours making the round against the state executive members that each member must pay N20,000 before a site would be allocated.
He also added that among the 17 units operating in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, only three units, namely, Tashan Kano, Damboa Road and Maddaganari were directly accused to have been collecting N20,000 from their members with the intention allocating sites to them.
The Chairman, further, explained that: “The association has a total membership of 16,720 members across the 27 LGCs of the state but the state government pledged to provide them with a site presently along Damboa Road for members in Tashan Kano, Damboa Road and Maddaganari Units, then subsequently, units along Kano-Jis Road, Bama Road, Baga and Mafa roads will benefit from the allocation accordingly”.
He said the state excos has met with Governor Babagana Zulum on several occasions as relate to the land issue and he reiterated his pledge to fulfill the promises he made to the association.
Engr. Musa, however, said that the only money being contributed by the registered members across the state include N200 monthly due and N5000 from offenders as penalty, while describing the information and rumours in circulation as false, baseless and unfounded.
He also warned mischief makers to desist from such act or face disciplinary action.
While noting that the association deserved unity and peace to progress, Engr. Musa, solicited for unity, cooperation and understanding among members.
He pledged absolute support to Gov Zulum’s led administration and thanked him for his support to the association.
