Borno State Primary Health Care Development Board (BSPHCDB) on Tuesday hosted a one-day training workshop for media professionals, social media influencers, and other communication stakeholders in Maiduguri, as part of preparations for a statewide Measles-Rubella mass mobilization campaign.
Held at the BSPHCDB Conference Hall, the workshop brought together journalists, electronic media representatives, U-Reporters, and online influencers to equip them with strategic communication tools and methodologies to effectively support the upcoming integrated measles immunization campaign.
Facilitated by an advocacy and communications consultant, Mr. Victor E., session featured a detailed presentation on the objectives of the campaign.
He highlighted the critical role the media plays in information dissemination, public sensitization, and community mobilization, especially in hard-to-reach areas across Borno’s 27 Local Government Areas.
Emphasizing the power of collaboration, Mr. Victor called on the media to partner closely with the Primary Health Care Board to improve vaccine coverage, particularly targeting children aged 9 to 59 months.
“The campaign is already in full swing nationally, led by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and now it’s the responsibility of state boards to localize the effort,” he said.
According to him, health personnel have already been deployed across various communities and health centers in Borno to commence the immunization exercise, which is set to run for over two weeks.
“The campaign aims to build on previous efforts and expand its reach with the support of the media and strategic communication partners.
The workshop concluded with a call to action for all media stakeholders to leverage their platforms to raise awareness, combat misinformation, and drive participation in the immunization campaign, ensuring no child is left behind.
