Center holds one day workshop on improving right to health in Sokoto

The Center for People’s Health, Peace and Progress (3ps) with support from the Strengthening Civic Advocacy and Local Engagement and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID-SCALE) and the Center for Social Justice (CSJ) has organized a one day workshop on improving the realization of the right to health in Nigeria.

Giving insight into the meeting on Thursday in Sokoto, 3Ps Executive Coordinator, Cecilia Eseme said other things to be achieved will include a validation of the Pre Health Budget Memorandum for Sokoto State.

According to her, the project’s goals is to contribute to improvements in the realization of the right to health in Nigeria through enhancing respect for extent laws and policies, reforming laws and policies as well as mainstreaming transparency and accountability in public health sector expenditure.

Cecilia in her invitation letter had earlier noted that, “Right to Health” cluster has developed a pre health budget memo which reviews existing laws and policies and their adequacy, existing budgetary commitments and their performance and relevance in the terms of economy, efficiency and effectiveness.

She also noted that it ensure value for money so as to identify what is working and what is not delivering as planned and it is also proposed a set of interventions and focus for the incoming year.

While stressing that the draft memo will be validated by stakeholders, Cecilia added that, the memo will be used as a basis to engage the executive and legislature.

Making his presentation on the Pre Health Budget Memorandum, Mr Fidelis Onyejegbu, the Programme Manager, Public Finance Management, Center for Social Justice, said the capacity of cluster members and critical CSOs will be improved upon after the meeting.
