PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –

The trial of Bar Ugoji Nwabueze over alleged impersonation as President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Cross River Chapter was on Tuesday stalled.

This followed the inability of Nwabueze’s counsel, Prof. Jacob Dada to provide the authority he cited in the last sitting.

The Inspector General of Police Usman Baba in suit number HC/82C/2021 dragged Nwabueze to court over alleged impersonation and forgery.

Justice Bassey Ebuta had adjourned the matter to March 8 to enable both parties present the authorities they cited to enable him rule on the matter.

However, while Mr Alex Ewa, counsel to the IGP complied, Dada’s authority was not made available to the judge.

Consequently, Ebuta ordered the defence counsel and prosecution counsels to pick a fresh date for the ruling; after putting heads together, March 17 was picked as the new date for proceedings.

Speaking to journalists after the sitting, Effiom Ayi, one of the defendant counsel said the ruling could not go on because on the last adjourned date, they had presented to the court that they needed to give an authority.

“To that end, we cited an authority which unfortunately we did not make available to the court today, consequently upon that, the ruling could not be delivered.

“A further date of March 17 has been picked to enable us supply the authority to the judge for the ruling to go
