Court remands man, 36, over alleged membership of secret cult

 An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, ordered the remand of a 36-year-old man, Sunday Olayokun, in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti over alleged membership of a secret cult.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for alleged cultism.
The Prosecutor, Insp Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 28 in Ido-Ekiti.
He said that the defendant was found to be a member of Eiye confraternity.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 2 of Secret Cult Abolition and Prohibition Law, 2017.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The plea of the defendant was, however, not taken.
The Magistrate, Mr Bankole Olasunkanmi, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.
He adjourned the case till Jan. 26, for mention. (NAN)
