Cross River Govt to immunize 700,000 children against measles

The Cross River State Government is set to immunized over 700,000 children against measles across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Director General of the Cross River State primary Health Care Development Agency (CRPHCDA), Janet Ekpeyong disclosed this in Calabar on Wednesday during a media orientation meeting with journalists ahead of the flag off campaign.

Mrs. Ekpeyong said every eligible child will be reached out to in order to ensure that over 100 percent is achieved.

She said: “The campaign will be house to house, school to school, from care givers, traditional rulers and health institution, in all Local Government Areas of Cross River State”

Mrs. Ekpeyong revealed that over 35 cases of measles outbreak were reported in Ogoja Local Government Area due to the influx of refugees from Cameroon.

The DG said the situation was brought under control because of the collaborative effort of partners like UNICEF, WHO , Break through Action Nigeria, among others.

She stated that the state recorded hugged success in the COVID-9 pandemic as over 500, 000 people have been vaccinated

According to her, the integrated measles campaign will be carried out simultaneously with COVID-19 for those who for one reason or the other could not have been vaccinated.
