*We’ll soon take action on Dogara – PDP

ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi

Some constituents of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara under the auspices of Concerned Citizens of Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency have described his defection to the All Progressives Congress as “meaningless” and one done for his selfish interest.

They therefore, disassociated themselves from his defection from the ruling People’s Democratic Party in the state.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the Zaranda Hotel, Bauchi, the leader of the group, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi, who said that Dogara’s defection was meaningless based on the reasons he articulated to the PDP Chairman of Ward C in Bogoro.

He said Dogara’s defection was selfish and too early considering that the PDP, after being declared winner, fought and won at the Supreme Court which subsequently affirmed the victory.

Abdullahi also hailed the Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed, for successfully managing the leadership fracas that hit the State Assembly at the inception of his administration.

He observed that despite the challenges at the onset, the Governor has so far fulfilled the campaign promises made to the electorate saying Dogara’s defection has no basis.

According to him, if Dogara could mobilise against those he fought in and consulted them when he left the APC in the first place, they wondered why he did not consult with the same people before deciding to dump the PDP and return to the APC saying his motive  confirmed his personal interest.

The group cautioned their Representative who is in his fourth term in the House, not to fight Governor Mohammed on any political issue as they expected him to give more time to the PDP administration in the state because the government was formed with him (Dogara).

It added that his defection justified the belief that he was fighting for his personal interest and not the interest of the people of the constituency.

They stated that Dogara’s defection to the APC would never relegate the PDP and the genuine desire of the administration  of Governor Mohammed to moved the state to greater heights.

Abdullahi said: “Dogara’s defection is meaningless because there was no proper consultation with the people of Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa federal constituency.

“We the concerned people from the area are not speaking on behalf of any political platform but we will not agree to what will have negative impact on our area.”

According to him, the concerned members of the constituency would resist in its entirety any further attempt for the former Speaker to ridicule the integrity of Governor Mohammed for selfish political blackmail.

“We voted Dogara not for any political party but we vehemently kick against his exit from PDP because he never consulted us and we wish to clearly disassociate ourselves from the move,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the PDP in Dogara’s Constituency have disclosed that very soon they will meet as party leaders and take decision against him for defection to the APC without notifying them.

The PDP Chairmen, Ladan Kafi (Dass), Emmanuel Zakka (Bogoro) and Abdulla Abda (Tafawa Balewa) stated this in a media statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi.

According to them none of the stakeholders within the party was consulted, contacted either in writing, verbally or otherwise in the entire constituency on his intention to defect from the PDP.

The statement stated that: “Yakubu Dogara did not come back home to meet his constituents on whatever could have been the reason for his re-defection to the All Progressive Congress

“Based on the above reasons, the entire PDP family in Dass, the Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro federal constituency unanimously distanced themselves from the action of Honorable Yakubu Dogara. The Party would now consult with the zonal and state party levels for the next line of action to be taken”.
