DSS operative and CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele
By EZEKIEL OBI, Abuja –
The Department of State Service (DSS), has debunked reports making the rounds on social media that its operatives arrested the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, Monday afternoo
Spokesman of the DSS, Dr Peter Afunanya, denied the report in a statement issued in Abuja.
He described the report as fake and misleading.
He said: “The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to the false news making the round that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria and arrested its Governor, today 16/1/23.
“This is fake news and quite misleading,” the DSS spokesman said.
It would be recallef that the embattled CBN governor has been having a running battle with the DSS over alleged terrorism financing.
The DSS had earlier sought a court order to arrest Emefiele who has been out of the country for his annual leave.
The FCT High Court had in December 2022, however barred the secret service from arresting, inviting, or detaining Emefiele.
