Easter: Emulate spirit of meekness, perseverance of Jesus Christ – Cleric

Very Rev. Samson Awoyode, the Dean, Cathedral of Saint Philips Anglican Church, Ayetoro, Ile-Ife, has charged Christians to emulate the spirit of meekness, love and perseverance of Jesus Christ.

Awoyode gave the charge during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, in Ile-Ife.

He said that Easter means celebration of crucifixion and resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

“As we are in the Holy Week, I want us to imbibe the spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ that He surrendered Himself even unto death on the cross for the remission of our sins.

“Jesus, with His Character, taught us to always be calm, level headed, shun pride, that’s why he rode on a donkey to enter into Jerusalem.

“So as Christians, let’s emulate Him in love, endurance, humbleness, level and cool headed by not arrogating things to ourselves,” he counselled.

The dean observed that the populace “are not finding life easy with what is going on across the country now, for what has never happened before is happening now.

“Nobody is happy across the country, especially the downtrodden masses with the cashless policy and economic recession, all these will surely become history soonest,” he emphasised.

According to him, people have money in the bank, but have no access to withdraw the amount they need.

The cleric also lamented that some people are happy at the suffering of others.

He admonished Christians “to exercise patience, for their Lord Jesus Christ would appear soonest to take them home where there’ll be Joy and everlasting enjoyment.

“We are suffering now, but our rejoicing period is at hand when Christ will appear to take the saints home, then there’ll be no hardship or sorrow again.

“Since we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, our redeemer lives and has power to deliver from this earthly calamity we are passing through,” he stated.

Awoyode also appealed to all Christians “to eschew all evils before, during and after Easter, for the period is meant for sober reflection of sins and to turn a new leaf in Christ”.

“Be cool and calm, don’t allow troubles to come to your ways, but continue looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith,” he urged. (NAN)
