Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has demonstrated remarkable leadership by personally leading the rescue of victims from a severe multi-vehicle accident on the Benin-Auchi Road near the bypass.
While traveling to Irrua in Esan Central Local Government Area in Saturday, Governor Okpebholo encountered a significant traffic jam.
Upon investigating, he discovered a chaotic scene with multiple injured individuals, many suffering from severe bleeding, as onlookers recorded videos rather than assisting.
Deeply moved by the victims’ plight, Okpebholo swiftly directed two of his security team’s Hilux vehicles to serve as makeshift ambulances. He personally oversaw the transfer of injured individuals, including a critically wounded woman, into the vehicles for immediate transport to a hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident involved four vehicles—three commercial mini-buses and a white Toyota Venza (registration: ABUJA GWA 50 AW). The Venza’s driver, reportedly driving against traffic, caused the collision, injuring numerous passengers and creating a major traffic disruption.
Governor Okpebholo remained at the scene until all victims were safely en route to medical care, accompanied by an additional security vehicle.
His decisive actions earned widespread praise from motorists, residents, and onlookers, who lauded his compassion and leadership.
One witness remarked, “Before the governor arrived, people were just filming. He took charge and ensured the victims got help. This is true leadership with heart” (NAN).
