Eid-el-Fitr: SEMA DG flags off distribution of condiments to IDPs at Gubio camp

The Director General, Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Hajiya Yabawa Kolo has flagged off the distribution of condiments to Internally Displaced Person’s (IDPs) at Gubio IDPs Camp in Maiduguri, ahead of the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr festival.

Speaking during the distribution exercise on Saturday, Hajiya Kolo said the condiments were part of the monthly exercise being carried out by the agency as directed by the Governor Babagana Zulum.

She also stressed that the Gubio IDPs Camp was among the largest IDPs camps presently in Maiduguri city with over 10,000 IDPs following the closure of other IDPs Camps by the state government and resettlement process of the IDPs in a dignified manner.

She added that the state government was also doing everything possible to ensure the closure of the few remaining IDPs Camps in no distant time while urging the benefiting IDPs to intensify prayers for the leaders of the state.

The SEMA DG further reiterated her commitment towards providing humanitarian services to IDPs in all parts of the state while promising to liaise with the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA , North East Development Commission (NEDC ) and other Federal Humanitarian Agencies in providing more assistance to the displaced persons in the state.

She however applauded the State Governor Zulum for supporting the agency in all its activities while charging the Committee set up for the distribution of the condiments to judiciously share all the items according to households as shown and recorded in the data sheet already captured.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Distribution Committee, Ali Abdullahi Isa said the distribution of the condiments where based on the Director General’s directive which have been stocked in SEMA main store.

He however promised to distribute the items accordingly based on the Number of Households in each of the camps while commending the DG SEMA for finding them worthy to serve in the committee.

The IDPs camp Chairman of Gubio, Mallam Mustapha Mohammed thanked the state governor and DG SEMA for their concern towards the plight of the IDPs, adding that, they are ever ready to go back to their ancestral homes at anytime to continue their normal life.

Items distributed included cartons of cooking oil, salt, maggi cubes, bags of millet, okro and tomato pastes among others.
