Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai
Kaduna State High Court on Monday adjourned till Tuesday, April 14, for ruling on the bail application of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, following an amendment of charges by the prosecution.
At the resumed proceedings, the amended charges were read and the defendant’s plea was taken. The prosecution also dropped one of the earlier co-defendants, leaving El-Rufai as the sole defendant in the case.
Counsel to the former governor, Ubong Akpan, told journalists that the court session focused mainly on the revised charges, which the defence said would require careful review before further hearing.
According to him, the defence moved a bail application, which was duly taken by the court.
“The motion for bail was taken. The court took the plea of the defendant, and the prosecution amended the charge and removed one person, leaving only Mallam El-Rufai to face prosecution,” he said.
Akpan noted that the amended charges were new to the defence team and would need to be thoroughly examined before the case could proceed.
“The charges are new, and we need time to study them properly,” he added.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter to Tuesday for ruling on the bail application.
