PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –

Emiritus Bishop of the Metropolitan Arch-diocese of Calabar, His Eminence, Bishop Joseph Ukpo has received his first jab of the Covid-19 Vaccine as he charges Nigerians of influence to live by example and help government in the fight against the Corona virus pandemic.

The one time Bishop of Chullu and Ogoja Diocese made the call recently in Calabar in support towards the state’s efforts in reducing Covid-19 related deaths and minimize transmission rate across the state.

The Catholic Diocese of Calabar and Ogoja had recently endorsed the vaccines during the 2021 spiritual week held in Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State where over 150 priests and Perpertual sisters got vaccinated.

Responding to the magnanimity and cohesive nature of the 84 year old very, Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Janet Ekpenyong said, leaders like Bishop Ukpo with wide range of exposure and intellect have remained a great force to reckon with.

She said with huge steps taken by the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Catholic Arch-Diocese of Calabar and Ogoja, have shown that the church is aware of the role of medicine in the society, noting that Cross River State will continue to reach out through Advocacy to all parties in order to attain wide acceptance and delibrately secure the health of the populace.

She called on all eligible adults from the ages of 18 years and above to walk into any government health facility including primary health care centre and request for their stipulated doses of either Astrazeneca or Moderna vaccines which she said is 100% effective and reliable for the fight against Covid-19 mutation.
