Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has advanced 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Director, transitioning from Grade Level 16 to 17, across various departments.
This announcement was made by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.
Olayinka explained that the promotions followed Minister Wike’s approval of the results from the FCTA’s inaugural computer-based promotion examination, designed to address promotion arrears for Grade Level 16 officers between 2023 and 2025.
“This marks a significant milestone in ensuring career progression for our dedicated workforce,” he stated.
Quoting Emeka Eze, Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Olayinka noted, “The 49 newly promoted officers will fill 49 of the 63 available vacancies across various departments.”
The Education Officer cadre led with 20 promotions, followed by the Accountant cadre with nine. Other cadres, such as Civil Engineering, Social Welfare, Tourism, Fisheries, and Medical Officers, each filled one vacancy with one eligible candidate.
Olayinka highlighted the competitive nature of the exercise, stating, “The Education Officer cadre saw 820 eligible candidates vying for 20 vacancies, while the Administration cadre had 12 candidates for 10 slots.”
To ensure transparency, Wike mandated a technology-driven approach, leading the Civil Service Commission to adopt a Computer-Based Test (CBT) model.
“The commission set a 60 percent pass mark for the CBT to guarantee efficiency and timely result processing,” Olayinka added.
