The Amalgamated Union of Foodstuffs and Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has condemned what it termed the harassment and molestation of its members who are enforcing the ongoing strike allegedly by the personnel of the Nigerian army.
The Secretary of the union, Comrade Ahmed Alaramah who stated this at a news briefing in Abuja, said the action of the personnel of Nigeria army on their members was a violation of their fundamental rights to protest.
He explained that the prevention of its members from carrying foodstuffs to the southern part of the country was to register their grouse and to compel government to protect their members who he said were being attacked and killed by hoodlums.
Comrade Ahmed Alaramah stated that the brutal handling of its members by army personnel would not deter them but would continue with the strike until government respond in addressing their demands.
Recall that the union embarked on the ongoing strike on the 25th of last month over alleged attacks on its members in Sasah area of Ibadan, attacks on trucks and other vehicles of members and extortion on the nation’s highway.
