Gov Mohammed inspects North-East Model ICT School in Bauchi, promises to support UBEC complete project

ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Tuesday, promised to support the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) complete the ongoing construction of the North East Model ICT School in the state.

Speaking after he was conducted round the project site at Old Nitel Quarters in Bauchi, on Tuesday, the Governor commended UBEC for initiating the project.

He said to ensure execution of qualitative projects, his administration is deepening inspection, monitoring and evaluation for procurements to have quality delivery.

According to him, the state government has already paid compensation for the land used for the project in a move to ensure timely and speedy completion.

He said: “I am here in fulfilment of my promise to the Honorable Minister of State for Education during the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the project that I will inspect and monitor the project from its commencement to completion.

“This project is our own and we must work together to actualize it. I am very passionate about this important project because of what the lead consultant said.”

The Governor believed that, any school with ICT facilities for teaching and learning, will equip the students with modern knowledge to enable them compete favorably with their counterparts across the globe.

When completed, he added, the state government will use the school to be a centre for the recruitment of technical teachers and workers.

“We must prepare our children for them to become useful members of the society. I am happy that UBEC is living up to expectations in terms of payment for the project,” he stated.

Mohammed said that despite some of the challenges affecting the smooth execution of the project, his administration will give the required support to ensure the completion of the project stressing that: “I am so much happy with the level of execution of this project and we are ready as government to give the needed support.”

A Board member of UBEC, Dr. Danjuma Dabo said the visit of the Governor to the project site will go a long way in boosting the morale of the contractors to execute the project as scheduled.

He said: “I want on behalf of the UBEC management thank His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed for this important visit. He is the first to inspect project site in all our project sites across the country.”

The lead consultant for the project, Engineer Mas’ud Barau told the Governor that the project is currently 45 percent completed.

He attributed the delay in the execution of the project to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
