By CALLISTUS OFFOR, Abuja –
In a bold call to return to scriptural roots, Reverend Sampson Amoateng, General Overseer of House of Miracles Ministries, is championing a tithe revolution. He’s urging churches to ditch forced tithe practices and instead, embrace the biblical principle of freewill giving.
“Tithing is a heartfelt expression of gratitude, trust, and obedience. It’s a spiritual discipline that fosters community, supports the church, and cares for the needy.” Rev. Amoateng emphasized in a statement on Wednesday.
He lamented that some churches have turned tithe into a legalistic obligation, documenting members’ contributions like a tax collector.
Rev. Amoateng’s passionate plea is for a return to the true essence of tithe: a joyful, voluntary act that honors God and builds His kingdom. He encouraged believers to embrace the practice with faith, trust, and generosity, ensuring that their giving is a reflection of their love for God, not a forced obligation.
By adopting this approach, Amoateng believed that people would not only deepen their relationship with God but also contribute to the betterment of their communities.
As he stressed, “Tithe is a vital aspect of religious practice that demonstrates our gratitude, obedience, and trust in God. Let us embrace it with joy and generosity, and watch our lives and communities transform!”
“Tithe and offering is a scriptural practice that is meant to be freewill and not by force.
“The concept of tithe is rooted in the biblical teachings of the Old and New Testaments, as recorded in Deut. 14, Matt. 6 and Malachi 3:10.
“I am against pastors or churches forcing people to document their tithe cards, saying, ‘my money is mine.
“It is carnal to document tithe cards. Tithing is a spiritual discipline that requires faith, trust, and obedience,” he said.
“Tithing has practical advantages; it helps to support the church and ministries, enabling the spread of the gospel and the care of the poor and needy.
“Tithe is a vital aspect of religious practice that demonstrates our gratitude, obedience, and trust in God.
”It is a spiritual discipline that requires faith and commitment, but yields rich rewards in terms of spiritual growth and financial responsibility.
”As we consider our relationship with God and our role in supporting the church, may we embrace the practice of tithe with joy and generosity,” he said.
