Impostors operating fake Facebook accounts in my name – Bauchi deputy gov
Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Auwal Jatau, has disowned some Facebook accounts that are being operated in his name by unknown persons.
Hon. Jatau said that these accounts bear his name and are currently being used to disseminate information ostensibly on his behalf.
According to him, he has never created any Facebook account in his entire life and has not authorized anyone to do so in his name.
Jatau made the disclaimer in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media Management, Muslim Lawal, and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Thursday.
He said that although he considers these accounts being operated in his name were opened by his lovers and supporters, and however called on them to desist from doing so.
The Deputy Governor, a former Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly and former Member of the House of Representatives, said that he may consider opening an official Facebook account and other social media handles in the future.
“The attention of the Bauchi State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau has been drawn to several fake Facebook accounts created in his name clandestinely as the rightful owner of such accounts by unknown individuals.
“To put the record straight, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau has never at any time created a Facebook account in his entire life and is appalled by the number of fictitious Facebook accounts.
“The Deputy Governor considers such actions as a sign of love for him by some of his supporters and well-wishers, however, he never authorized anyone to create or manage a Facebook account on his behalf.
“Considering the implication of such actions, His Excellency has advised that moving forward, nobody should create any social media account in his name and not just Facebook. However, the Deputy Governor may, in due course, consider creating an official Facebook account and other social media platforms.
“At the moment, friends, associates and the general public are requested to disregard any Facebook or other social media handles bearing the name of Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau,” Lawal said in the statement.
