Kaduna State Council of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has lauded Governor Uba Sani for implementing the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for health workers in the state.
It was made known in a press statement signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Ishaku Yakubu, and the State Secretary, Comrade Christiana Bawa, the council described the governor’s action as “a singular act of magnanimity and fairness that has rekindled the hope of many dedicated nurses in your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.”
The association noted that the decision to implement both salary structures despite competing demands on state resources underscores the governor’s commitment to the welfare of health workers.
“NANNM wishes to state that you have not only demonstrated genuine commitment to the welfare of nurses and health workers, but have also reaffirmed your passion for strengthening healthcare delivery in our dear state,” the statement stated.
The council further said the move has boosted morale, improved productivity, and positioned Kaduna as a model of labour-friendly governance.
The association recalled that health workers in many states of the federation have continued to agitate for the implementation of CONHESS and CONMESS, noting that Kaduna’s example stands out as a beacon of responsive leadership.
“This bold step has once again placed Kaduna at the forefront of states prioritising human capital development,” it added.
Observers say the governor’s gesture is timely, especially at a period when nurses and midwives face increasing workload pressures due to rising population and growing demand for healthcare services. They believe the improved welfare package will not only retain experienced professionals but also encourage young graduates to take up careers in the health sector.
The nurses and midwives, in their statement, pledged continuous loyalty, dedication, and professional excellence in service to Kaduna State as their modest contribution to the governor’s health sector reforms.
They assured that with better motivation, they are determined to redouble efforts toward delivering quality and accessible healthcare to citizens across urban and rural communities.
Health sector stakeholders have equally applauded the development, describing it as a step that will strengthen industrial harmony, reduce brain drain, and enhance public confidence in government hospitals.
