IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, with his lawyers in court
Detained self-acclaimed leader of the proscribed separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has fired all members of his legal team.
Kanu is facing trial before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court Abuja over his alleged involvement in terrorism activities.
The trial began in October 2021, with Kanu being accused of “terrorism, treason, involvement with a banned separatist movement, inciting public violence through radio broadcasts, and defamation of Nigerian authorities through broadcasts”.
On Thursday, the 58-year old Kanu told the court that he was willing to defend himself.
Based on his position, all the Senior Advocates in the team, led by Kanu Agabi (SAN), announced their decision to withdraw their continuous participation in his case.
Kanu is currently addressing the court from the dock, challenging the court’s jurisdiction to continue to try him.
