Kaduna State University (KASU) has positioned itself as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising institutions in academic excellence, research innovation, and infrastructural expansion, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, has said.
In a statement on Thursday, the VC said the university has significantly widened opportunities for young people in Kaduna State to actualise their academic aspirations, noting that its progress is the result of deliberate reforms and sustained government support.
Prof. Musa revealed that KASU recently became the only state university in Nigeria to secure a ₦1 billion competitive grant for commercial agriculture from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), a feat he described as a major milestone in the institution’s growth trajectory.
He also disclosed that three KASU scholars have been ranked among the world’s top 2% scientists, an achievement he described as historic for both Kaduna State and Nigeria. The scholars include Prof. Ibrahim Inuwa of the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Daniel Yahaya Shagaiya of the Mathematics Department, and Dr. Abdullahi Yusuf Zuntu of the Department of Physics.
“These feats couldn’t have been achieved without the support and guidance of Governor Uba Sani. Over the last two years, KASU has witnessed a remarkable transformation driven by strategic reforms, targeted investments, and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” he said.
According to the VC, the university’s advancements reflect the administration’s broader vision of human capital development, knowledge-driven growth, and inclusive prosperity for Kaduna citizens.
Prof. Musa further highlighted the establishment of two new academic colleges, the College of Science, Computing & Engineering and the College of Allied Health & Pharmaceutical Sciences both designed to meet evolving industry demands.
He said KASU has also expanded its global footprint through research partnerships with Lomonosov Moscow State University for digital innovation and academic exchanges, Universitas Indonesia for stem cell research, and Ascending Consultants/Ledger Lab for Artificial Intelligence and blockchain development.
Additionally, the university has introduced high-demand programmes such as Cyber Security, Data Science, Biotechnology, and Information Systems.
The VC noted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has conducted resource verification for 40 new programmes and accredited over 50 existing ones, with 47 securing full accreditation status.
“These reforms have strengthened KASU’s reputation as a future-ready university producing industry-aligned graduates in line with the government’s vision for higher education,” he added.
