Late Maj.-Gen. Jinadu, a forthright, detribalised military officer – COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) , ) Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, has described the late Maj.-Gen. Bashiru Jinadu as a distinguished Nigerian who was detribalised and forthright in his professional career.

The COAS made the assertion during the interment of the late Jinadu at the Military Cemetery, Jericho in Ibadan on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that retired Maj. Gen. Bashiru Jinadu died in Ibadan on Sept. 24 at age 72.

NAN also reports that the late Jinadu, a former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, retired as the Chief of Army Standard and Evaluation.

Yahaya, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Div, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Maj. Gen. Aminu Chinade, commiserated with the widow of the deceased.

He described the late Jinadu as a distinguished gentleman senior officer who served the Nigerian Army and the nation meritoriously in various capacities.

The COAS said that the late Jinadu was no doubt a detribalised Nigerian, a forthright gentleman and professional military officer who served his fatherland diligently with unblemished record and with remarkable achievements.

“Specifically, he was one time an Instructor at Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and a General Staff Officer Grade 2 Training at Armed Forces Command Staff College, Jaji.

“He was Sector Commander at Headquarters, Nigerian Contingent UN Mission in Sierra Leone and military officer at the UN Iran-Iraq Military Observer Group.

“He was Commanding Officer 222 Battalion, Director of Training at Headquarters National Guard, and later GOC 82 Division, Enugu,” he said.

Yahaya said that the late Jinadu served as the Chief of Army Standard and Evaluation before his retirement from the Nigerian Army, saying the deceased lived an impactful and fulfilled life.

The Chief of Army staff said that his demise was certainly a difficult moment for the family, friends, associates, Nigerian Army, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the nation at large.

Bidemi Jinadu, the first daughter of the deceased, described him as a caring father who showed his wife and children love and everyone that came across him.

She said that her late father fought a good fight, adding “all his good deeds will forever be remembered.

“You are a rare gem; Akanni mi. I love you and even in death, I will continue to love you.

“My happiness is to know you really are resting in the bosom of our Lord Jesus. Rest on my darling Angel till we meet to part no more. Adieu! Good night!,” she said.

In attendance at the burial programme were members of the Retired Army, Navy and Air Force Officers Association (RANAO) led by its ex-National President, Maj.-Gen. A. A. Mshelbwala. (NAN).
