Lawmaker Gagdi donates classroom blocks, advocates educational growth in his Constituency
By CHRISTIANA LOT, Jos –
In a pivotal initiative aimed at improving education in the Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, the member representing the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has donated a newly constructed and fully furnished three-classroom block to his alma mater, Government Model Secondary School, Dengi.
The building, constructed on behalf of the Gagdi Support Foundation, was dedicated in memory of the lawmaker’s late father, Mallam Adamu (Tanko) Yusuf Gagdi.
It was officially commissioned by the Emir of Kanam, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Mu’azu Muhammadu II, during the 2024 Dengi Old Students Association (DOSA) National Convention conducted in Dengi on October 5th, 2024.
In his remarks, Gagdi underscored the significance of education as a bedrock for community development, emphasizing it as a primary focus of his efforts.
“I have numerous plans for education. Bringing a Federal University to my constituency shows my commitment to educational development. I don’t think there is anyone else in Plateau—whether in APC or PDP—who has an educational plan as comprehensive as mine,” he stated.
He further elaborated on his advocacy for establishing a Federal University, asserting, “Even if it is not situated within my constituency, I have demonstrated my capacity and representation by ensuring this university is established to benefit the people of PKK.”
In addition to the newly unveiled classrooms, Gagdi reiterated his dedication to expanding educational opportunities throughout PKK.
“We are also advocating for a naval military secondary school to be built in Kanke and working on relocating the Federal College of Education to Kanam. These projects will provide a solid educational foundation for our youth, positioning them to compete on a national level,” he added.
Additionally, he revealed plans to establish an Information Communication Technology (ICT) center in Dengi, which would serve as a JAMB registration and examination center, thereby bringing modern facilities closer to the local community.
While inaugurating the new building, the Emir of Kanam, Alhaji Muhammad Mu’azu Muhammadu II, commended Gagdi for his contributions to education and community advancement.
“This is a proud moment for us as Kanemians. The success of individuals like Gagdi, who have made remarkable contributions to society, is a testament to the greatness of our heritage and our commitment to achieving higher heights.
“The growth of this institution, with the support of people like Gagdi, speaks to the rich legacy of Kanam and the opportunities we provide for our youth,” he stated.
The event also included the planting of trees by the 1987 set of the school, marking their enduring support for the institution’s growth and sustainability.
In another development, Gagdi returned to his hometown of Gum-Gagdi Ward, where he received a warm reception in anticipation of the upcoming local government elections on October 9. He expressed optimism about the future of his constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and reaffirmed his link to the grassroots community.
“My people are my strength, my detente, and my AK-47. They are my political backbone, and it’s their love and support that matters most to me. The ongoing development in PKK—whether it’s the hospitals, roads, schools, or empowerment programs—demonstrates our commitment to improving the lives of our constituents,” he emphasized.
While urging his constituents to support the APC, Gagdi highlighted his numerous accomplishments, which include road construction, covering WAEC and NECO fees for students, and ongoing healthcare initiatives. “We have done so much for this constituency, and we will continue to push for more. I challenge anyone to show what the PDP has done for this community, and if they do, I will personally lead their campaign. But until then, I stand firmly behind the APC and its track record in PKK,” he asserted.
