“…Such large crowds gathered around Him that He got into a boat and sat down, while all the people stood on the shore. And He told them many things in parables…
(cf Mathew 13:1-22)

The Word of God is a seed and a potentially mighty seed
When God’s Word is uttered, shared, or proclaimed, it is a seed seeking a soil to take root in. A seed can be small but powerful. We should never undermine what God’s Word can do in a place, in a person, and in a situation. It is a seed that can become a great shelter and a source of food, nourishment and so much more when it grows eventually. A believer in Christ Jesus, must learn to speak God’s Word always as it is a seed that will grow and transform anything, any person and any situation.

The Word of God has a purpose
In my experience of rebirth in Christ Jesus, I am learning that the Word of God is not just words. Rather, it is like a seed that goes down with the intention to germinate and bear fruit. The Word of God is not like the ordinary words we say, sometimes without intentionality. Though this should not be the case with believers. Or words said with the hope that maybe something will come of it. When meeting a person, it is better to put forward God’s Word rather your own intelligence or good grammar. The intentionality of God’s Word is Spirit filled and is sharper than two edged swords (Hebrews 4:12). My ordinary words may not impact a person but the Word of God can impact that person and transform that life. A believer must also not have just ordinary words, but words season by God’s Word.

Need to Allow God’s Word to bear fruit in me
When the Word of God takes root in me, in my life, and fills my heart, then even the words I utter will become filled with the Word of God and filled with Spirit and Life. When the Word of God takes deep root in me, I no longer separate God’s Word from my way of thinking and speaking. What I think and say becomes filled with God’s Word. The fruits of God’s Word will first affect my life and so they thinking, speaking and actions get enveloped in God’s Word. This is my desire and prayer for every believer, in Jesus name. Amen.

Need to identify the things that can choke God’s word in my life
We must not take for granted that the Word of God we’ve heard is done and dusted and settled in our lives. The devil would want to undermine it and take it away so that it does not bear fruit in our heart and lives. We should be aware of temptations, wrong utterances, negative thoughts, actions, and words, that undermine and useless my faith and the things we have professed and declared.

Do you make confessions and declarations, and again counteract it during the day with your negative or faithless little comments here and there? Do you hear the Word of God and then contradict it by your very own disbelieving words, thoughts and actions?

Instead, as believers, we need to pay more attention to the words we say when things don’t seem fine. Keep confessing and declaring God’s word in every circumstance. When the Word of God gets tested and tried in my life, may I not be found wanting. Amen. May you not be found wanting. Amen.

Constant/Consistent/Continuous Exposure to the Word of God
The Word of God, being a seed with a purpose and a potentially mighty tree, must become part of your daily life. You need to constantly, consistently and continuously expose myself to the Word of God. Daily bible reading, listening to sermons, attending bible study, reading good books that expound God’s Word, ensure that the Christian community you belong to has a strong base on the Word of God and preach it without fear or favour. You can also join bible reading programs throughout the year to keep you in constant touch with God’s Word. You must see in every engagement how the Word of God can be part of all you do including social and even political events you organize.

The Word of God is meant to be proclaimed
Just as the sower of the seed did not keep the Word of God to herself, so too the Word of God is not to be kept but proclaimed, near, far and wide. The idea is that the Word of God bears fruit, hundredfold, sixtyfold, and thirtyfold in abundance. How can it bear fruit if it has not been sown in the first place? The command is: Go ye and preach the good news!

Prayer:
Lord, may your Word be a lamp unto my steps and a light unto my path. May I become a sower of God’s Word wherever I go. Help me, Lord. Give me courage. Help the little faith I have that I may be a proclaimer of your Word, oh Lord.
