The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has declared open a five days 46th regular meeting of the National Council on Agriculture and Food Security (NCAFS) opened in Calabar the Cross River State’s capital with the theme: ‘Resilience to climate change towards Sustainable Food Security ‘
The minister, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Tomitope Fashedemi Calabar International Convention center, said:
‘It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Opening Ceremony of the Officials Session of the 46th Meeting of the National Council on Agriculture and Food Security, as a platform for reviewing ongoing policies and programs towards ensuring agricultural development in the
nation. Indeed, the Agriculture sector is still identified and tasked as a springboard for national economic recovery, stabilization and growth”
“As a responsibility at this meeting, we are to dispassionately explore the best approach to sustaining food security, employment generation and wealth creation in the country.”
“This process is to assess the effect of the ongoing initiatives and fine-tune strategies
In his welcome address, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Irrigation Development Johnson Ebokpo, stated that ” We are indeed very grateful to convene this pivotal meeting being the 46th regular meeting of the National Council on Agriculture and Food security under the strategic theme ” resilience to climate change towards sustainable food security”.
“As we gather here today to embark on a crucial dialogue that will shape the agricultural sector and drive sustainable food security, it is paramount that we recognise the pressing global challenge of climate change and come up with a collective commitment that will build a strong resilience to the many effects of climate change”
Ebokpo stated that as we already know, food security has been a core aspect of the renewed hope agenda of His Excellency, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is equally the basis for programmes and policies of state governments especially the people’s first agenda of our pragmatic and visionary Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu”
“Furthermore, as we deliberate on the theme, it is imperative that we engage in constructive dialogue, share best practices and collectively chart a course towards proferring sustainable solutions to food production amidst the climate change issues we are faced with”
“Let us note that the decisions and commitments made in this meeting will reverberate beyond our gathering and have a great impact on the livelihoods of millions of farmers and the entire citizenry of our nation”
