Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has said that Nigeria needed to intensify efforts in equipment production for the armed forces, to fight insecurity.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Otuyemi Adetayo, Press and Public Relations officer of the ministry, on Friday, in Abuja.

Onu said this when he received the report of the inter-ministerial committee on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Government and Wise Guard Technologies Nig. Ltd. in Abuja.

The committee comprised members of the Nigerian Army, Airforce, Civil Defence Corps, National Agency for Space Research Development and the Ministry of Interior.

The minister stressed that security was very important for all citizens no matter where they lived, and the current security challenges in the country was but a price for national development.

He added that more indigenous innovations would, however, emanate from the security situation.

The chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee, Dr Halilu Ahmad Shaba, expressed optimism that all hands would be on deck to improve the committee’s work. (NAN)
