NAPTIP handover 22 rescued trafficked victims to community leaders in Sokoto

The Zonal Commander, NAPTIP, Sokoto Zonal Comand, Barr Abubakar Bashiru has handed over 22 of the rescued victims of human trafficking to their families through their various community leaders in Sokoto State.

Speaking before handing over the rescued victims, Bashiru said, investigation into their identities revealed that they are from Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Imo, Delta and Edo States respectively.

While noting that those of the Yoruba origin would be received by the Yoruba community leader in Sokoto, Barrister Bashiru appealed to parents to care for the whereabouts of their children at all times, adding that, there is no free money anywhere.

“Some of the victims are sent on this errand with the consent of their parents. However for some, their parents are innocent as they are not aware”.

“These children aged between 16 and 25 have been decieved by the promised of quick money abroad. Lets seriously monitor our children”.

“Our investigations is still ongoing to unravel the identities of the cartels behind this ugly traffic in human. And we may be calling on these victims to come and testify against aprehended perpetrators when the need arises”

Receiving those from the Yoruba States, The President General, Yoruba Community in Sokoto, Chief James Olurunfemi who is also a Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Wasiri Tambuwal on Yoruba resident community, said, he was not happy with the development.

Giving reasons for his displeasure, Chief James said, the Yorubas have never been known for participating in such trafficking activities, hence, appealing to patents and guardians to be responsible for their offsprings at all times.

To those that have choosed to enbark on as well as those that might be nursing the ambition, Chief James advised that, all they needed to become great could be found in Nigeria, hence the need for patience, hardwork and reliance on God for divine intervention at all times.

Recall that the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons, (NAPTIP) Sokoto Zonal Command had earlier received 22 Nigerians from Niger Republic who are victims of human trafficking.
