North East Development Commission (NEDC) has commissioned and handed over several multi-billion naira projects to the Taraba State Government, as part of its ongoing development interventions across the North-East region of Nigeria.
The commissioning exercise, which took place in Jalingo, forms part of the commission’s wider programme of transferring completed projects to state governments in the six North-East states to ensure proper utilization and sustainability.
The NEDC delegation was led by Uba Maigari Ahmadu, alongside the Commission’s Chairman, Paul Tarfa, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed G. Alkali. Other members of the team included National Assembly members, executive directors, board members, and senior management staff of the commission.
According to NEDC officials, the visit underscores the commission’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with state governments and ensuring the timely delivery of projects that improve livelihoods and promote sustainable development in the region.
During a courtesy visit to Governor Agbu Kefas, Uba Ahmadu explained that the delegation was in Taraba to inspect ongoing projects and formally commission completed ones for public use. He commended the state government for providing a peaceful and supportive environment that enabled the smooth execution of the projects.
The minister noted that under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NEDC remains committed to implementing people-oriented projects in line with the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.” He urged residents to continue supporting both the state and federal governments to attract more development initiatives.
Among the projects commissioned at General Hospital Zing are a renovated and fully equipped 60-bed male and female ward, three two-bedroom staff quarters, fenced residential facilities, three boreholes, and solar-powered street lights. These facilities are expected to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
Another major project handed over was the Taraba State Entrepreneur Centre located at Taraba State University Jalingo. The centre, constructed and fully furnished by the NEDC, is equipped to train undergraduates in entrepreneurship and self-reliance skills.
Receiving the project keys on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Savior Noku, expressed gratitude to the commission for its interventions. He assured that the facilities would be put to effective use to help transform graduates into job creators and contributors to the state’s economy.
The projects, according to stakeholders, reflect NEDC’s continued efforts to rebuild and reposition communities in Taraba State and the wider Nigeria’s North-East region for long-term growth and stability.
