Nigerian government, under President Bola Tinubu, has allocated over N90 billion through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support tuition and living expenses for approximately 400,000 students in tertiary institutions nationwide.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by a delegation of State Commissioners of Information, led by Borno’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Alhaji Idris highlighted the initiative’s impact.
“Through NELFUND, President Tinubu has ensured that over 400,000 students can pursue their education without financial burdens on their families,” he stated.
Idris emphasized that the funds cover both school fees and maintenance for students across various tertiary institutions.
He added, “President Tinubu’s vision is clear: no Nigerian child of school age should be denied access to higher education due to financial constraints.”
The minister, further, underscored Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance, stating, “This administration is dedicated to the prosperity and well-being of all Nigerians, regardless of political or religious affiliations.”
He also pointed to additional initiatives, such as the Cancer Screening and Treatment Centre, as evidence of Tinubu’s focus on serving all citizens.
Idris urged Nigerians to recognize the broader impact of these policies, saying, “Whether you support the All Progressives Congress or not, these initiatives, like NELFUND and healthcare advancements, are for the benefit of your children and communities.”
