Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), the leading organization for professional actors in Nigeria’s film industry, widely known as Nollywood, has formed the AGN Asset Retrieval Committee.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Dr. Emeka Rollas, the National President of AGN, introduced the three-member committee to the guild’s Board of Trustees (BOT) during a meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja.
The meeting was organized to officially unveil the guild’s new national secretariat to the BOT.
The committee, chaired by Onwurah Ifeanyi, with Garba Muazu as Secretary and Sydney Diala as a member, is tasked with recovering and protecting the guild’s assets that have been misappropriated, while also preventing future losses.
Dr. Rollas explained that over the past two decades, the guild has suffered significant losses, including vehicles, buses, furnished offices, landed properties, equipment, and other resources due to mismanagement or wrongful appropriation by former leaders.
“To protect our legacy and deter such practices moving forward, we have established the AGN Asset Retrieval Committee,” Rollas stated.
“This committee is authorized to locate, identify, and reclaim these assets—whether financial, material, or infrastructural—in collaboration with government agencies such as the Police, EFCC, and ICPC. This initiative will not only recover what belongs to us but also promote accountability and transparency within our organization.”
Rollas, who is in his final term as president, also announced that, in accordance with the guild’s constitution, the BOT has set up a National Electoral Committee (AGNEC) to oversee the upcoming national election.
Expressing gratitude to the BOT for their unwavering support, Rollas noted that their encouragement had created a favorable environment for his administration to fulfill its responsibilities effectively.
“It is with great pride and appreciation that I stand before you today to present our guild’s new office to the Board of Trustees,” he said. “I am deeply grateful for the trust you have consistently placed in me, allowing me the privilege to serve as president of this esteemed guild for the past seven years. Your guidance and support have been pivotal to our collective achievements.”
Rollas highlighted several accomplishments during his tenure, including fostering unity among members, healing internal divisions, and enhancing the guild’s visibility and reputation both locally and globally.
He also introduced a retail health management plan to provide affordable healthcare for members and launched the AGN Super App, a platform offering members rewards, opportunities, and access to essential information.
In response, BOT Secretary Sonny McDon praised Rollas and his team for their dedicated efforts to advance the guild. “We, as the Board of Trustees, are proud of your achievements and acknowledge your hard work,” McDon said.
“Despite challenges, you have exceeded expectations, and we fully support your administration.” (NAN)
