Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North (APC-Delta), has called for stringent punishment for those orchestrating staged kidnappings, emphasizing the need to deter such deceptive acts.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, Nwoko condemned the rising trend of fabricated abductions, describing them as a betrayal of societal values.
“Staged kidnappings not only traumatize families but also squander security resources and undermine public trust,” he said, urging law enforcement to ensure perpetrators face severe consequences.
Recounting a recent incident, Nwoko shared, “I received a distressing call from a parent whose son was allegedly kidnapped, with a viral video showing him in a forest in Aniocha North.
After mobilizing police and local vigilantes, investigations revealed the young man staged the act himself.”
He labeled such behavior “reckless and criminal,” stressing it is “alien to the values of Delta North.”
Nwoko reiterated his commitment to protecting his constituency, supporting security efforts, and fostering peace and trust.
“These acts trivialize the pain of real victims,” he noted, advocating for robust measures to ensure such deceit is eradicated from Nigerian society.
