Lawmakers at the senate
Senate on Tuesday inaugurated four newly elected senators following recent by-elections held to fill vacant seats in the National Assembly.
The lawmakers are Olaka Nwogu Johnson (Rivers South-East), Francis Dayo Faduyile (Ondo South), Asogwa Ikeje Israel (Enugu North), and Halilu Danladi Envulu-Aza (Nasarawa North).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio administered the oath of office during plenary and welcomed them to the Red Chamber.
The vacancies arose after the death of three senators and the appointment of one lawmaker as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Akpabio urged the new senators to study the Constitution and Senate Standing Orders to guide their legislative duties
He also paid tribute to the deceased lawmakers and expressed hope that no further vacancies would occur through such circumstances.
Their inauguration raises the Senate’s membership to 109, with the APC further consolidating its majority in the chamber.
