The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Muhammed Fadah has charged corps members to imbibe on the tenets of the scheme by promoting national unity, friendship and cross-cultural cohesion.
The Director General gave the charge today at opening ceremony of the 2022 Batch B stream two orientation course which took place at Dan Magaji Yamusa permanent orientation camp, Keffi.
Represented by the Nasarawa State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Abubakar Jikamshi, the DG reminded the corps members that the orientation exercise is the first cardinal point of call for introducing and equipping them with skills and entrepreneurship programmes that will usher them into the wider world after graduation.
According to him, the para-military drills and Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programmes are designed to enable corps members realized their potentials.
While urging corps members to participate actively in the programme, the NYSC state coordinator, noted that the scheme is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to provide them with funds to set up small scale business as white collar jobs are no longer readily available.
He appealed for support from all the relevant stakeholders to ensure that the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund bill which has reached advanced stage of legislation.
“When it is established, it will enhance the smooth operation of the scheme by addressing challenges of infrastructure and provide start-up capital for corps members”, he said.
Earlier, the oaths of allegiance were administered to the corps members by the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State Justice Aisha Bashiru.
Justice Bashiru, who was represented by Justice Abdulahi Ezegya of the Keffi High Court charged corps members to shun negative social vices and observe COVID-19 safety precautions.
