Ogun State Police Command has taken a motorcyclist, Godonu Lowe, into custody for allegedly killing his wife and attempting to leave their community with her remains concealed in a sack.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed the development in a statement released on Thursday in Abeokuta.
CSP Odutola said the arrest was made on Wednesday at about 1:05 p.m. after the Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro received reliable information from an anonymous resident.
“The Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro received credible intelligence that a man identified as Godonu Lowe of Omolende Village, Idogo, was attempting to flee the community with the body of a woman concealed in a sack on his motorcycle,” Odutola stated.
According to her, officers acted promptly, intercepted the suspect and examined the sack tied to his motorcycle. “The content was discovered to be the corpse of an adult female, later confirmed to be the suspect’s wife,” she said.
Odutola added that preliminary observations suggested signs of violence, and a cutlass suspected to be linked to the incident was recovered during the operation.
The spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody, while the victim’s remains have been deposited at the State morgue in Ilaro for preservation and autopsy.
Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the anonymous informant for providing timely information, urging members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement with credible tips. He noted that, in many cases, “even the slightest suspicion reported to the police could save lives.”
