Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two unidentified suspects found in possession of human body parts in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emenari Ifeanyi, made this known during a press briefing on Thursday in Makurdi, the state capital.
According to the CP, the suspects were apprehended on October 22 in Okpokwu Local Government Area by operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard before being handed over to the police for further investigation.
> “The suspects were caught with a human head, lap, and heart. After a thorough investigation, they have been charged to court,” Ifeanyi disclosed.
The police boss also provided updates on ongoing operations across the state, revealing that between mid-September and the end of October, a total of 181 suspects were arrested for various crimes including armed robbery, cultism, banditry, homicide, and illegal possession of firearms.
Within the same period, the command recorded 14 homicide cases, 12 armed robberies, four kidnappings, 16 banditry or terrorism-related incidents, and three cult-related attacks.
Recovered items included 15 firearms, 67 rounds of ammunition and cartridges, and three stolen vehicles. The police also successfully rescued 23 kidnapped victims.
> “Sustained clearance operations and raids on bandit hideouts in the Sankera axis—comprising Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo LGAs—resulted in the arrest of over 70 suspects linked to banditry,” Ifeanyi said.
“These efforts have dismantled criminal networks, destroyed their camps, and enabled displaced residents to return to their homes and farmlands.”
The CP further revealed that coordinated raids on October 25 in Otukpo and Ohimini LGAs led to the arrest of 39 suspected armed robbers, allegedly connected to a gang that had earlier attacked security operatives in the area.
Highlighting developments within the command, Ifeanyi announced that 445 officers and men had recently been promoted, commending their dedication and hard work.
He also appreciated the collaboration among security agencies—particularly Operation Whirl Stroke, the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, and other sister agencies—for their sustained partnership in restoring peace and security across the state.
