In furtherance of its determination to revamp the health sector for effective service delivery, the Ogun State Government through the Hospitals Management Board, said it has set to upgrade its health information technology for adequate data gathering and efficiency.
Board Chairman, Dr Iziaq Salako, revealed this at the inaugural meeting of the Hospitals Management Team, at Abeokuta, explaining that the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT), in healthcare services would enhance work efficiency and prevent medical errors.
According to Salako, all secondary health facilities in the state should immediately set machinery in motion to deploy necessary resources for its effectiveness.
He said electronic payment platforms in major hospitals would be made functional, even as he noted that electronic payment technology has improved compared to the challenges faced in previous times.
“Some challenges led to the withdrawal of electronic payment technology, obviously it has improved and we would take a second look at its deployment to our major hospitals,” he said.
Salako also stated that the laws that established the Board were neither to probe nor witch-hunt anybody, but to guide the vision of the present administration as contained in its mission statement, adding that periodic awards for health workers would be introduced to stimulate healthy competition among various hospitals.
The board chairman said further that five state hospitals in Abeokuta, Ishara, Ijebu-Ode, Ota and Ilaro, would be upgraded to Specialist Hospitals, in specific areas of medical specialisation.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr Nafiu Aigoro said the Government had given approval for employment of Medical Consultants, in accordance with salary structure of the State Government which is similar to Federal Government salary structure in specialised fields such as Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, General surgery, Orthopedic, Radiology and Anesthesia.
